When asked to participate in the series Cinéma, de notre temps, Chantal Akerman jokingly chose herself as subject matter. She had envisioned the film to be comprised solely of clips from her old films with an opening showing herself sitting in her appartement and looking squarely at the camera, explaining to the viewer her predicament. Whet emerges from this unconventional mise-en-scene is an often funny, often personnal and always thoughtful confession of an extremely intelligent filmmaker.
