Sixteen-year-old Ester lives a safe but mundane life with her religious and conservative parents in a small, isolated bay on an island in the Faeroes. One day, during Sunday school, she meets Ragna - A girl who has just moved to the same small bay with her alcoholic mother and eight-year-old little brother. In Ragna, Ester sees something she has been looking for all her life. Opposites meet and a friendship emerges. Together they dream about escaping from their boring lives, but they realize that the only thing they actually want to escape is themselves.
