Dario Argento’s phantasmagoric gothic nightmare blends operatic violence, disorienting dream logic and hyper-real visuals to create a horror classic.
Suzy Bannion, a young American girl, goes to one of the most famous European Dance Academy in Germany to improve her classical ballet studies. On a dark and stormy night, she arrives in Freiburg and, right in front of the school, she sees a frightened girl who says apparently meaningless sentences. The next day, the vice-directress tells the students that their mate has been brutally murdered. For Suzy, this is the beginning of a long journey into the nightmare, surrounded by inexplicable phenomena and creepy events. Later on, Daniel, the school blind pianist, is tore apart by his dog and Sarah, Suzy’s only real friend, dies in a very horrific way. Looking for an explanation, Suzy finds out that the Academy has been founded at the beginning of the Century by Helena Markos, a witch with extraordinary powers and a lot of initiates.
