Respected schoolteacher Rath learns of his pupils’ infatuation with postcards depicting a nightclub songstress. To investigate the source of indecency, Rath goes to the Blue Angel nightclub and is fatefully seduced by the smoldering Lola-Lola, triggering the downward spiral of his life and fortune.
The pedantic high school teacher Professor Immanuel Rath is shocked. Instead of lying in bed at night, his students hang out at the nightclub ""Der blaue Engel"". In order to catch them in the act, Immanuel follows them to the dubious establishment, where he meets the singer Lola Lola and falls for her charm. When his nocturnal adventure is discovered and he confesses to Lola, he is dismissed. He asks for her hand in marriage and accompanies her on her tour. But while Lola rises to become a respected artist over the years, the once respected professor develops into a pathetic clown. DER BLAUE ENGEL is one of the most important films of the Weimar Republic. The role of nightclub singer Lola Lola founded the myth of Marlene Dietrich and paved the way for her world fame.
