The Keeper

From Nazi to football hero
An extraordinary love story between a young English woman and a German PoW, who together overcome prejudice, outrage and personal tragedy.
While visiting a PoW camp near Manchester at the end of WWII, Margaret and her father, manager of the local football team, notice young German soldier Bert Trautmann. Taken by Bert's prowess as a goal-keeper, Margaret's father gets him out so he can play for his team. While Margaret's and Bert's love slowly blossoms despite local hostilities, Bert's outstanding skills are noticed by Man City. The couple gets married and Bert signs with the club; causing outrage to thousands of fans, many of them Jewish. With an unexpected supporter, Rabbi Altmann, and the legendary victory at the 1956 FA Cup Final that Bert achieves despite a broken neck, there is ultimate reconciliation. Yet Margaret and Bert and their loyalty to each other will be put to the test once more.
