A French road movie is a comedy-drama from writer-director Manuel Poirier and brings laconic and heartfelt tale of charming Spanish shoe salesman Paco(Sergi López) and Russian nebbish hitch-hiker, Nino (Sacha Bourdo), and of their unusual friendship. They meet each other on a trip through the French countryside, when Paco picks up the unassuming Nino, hitch-hiking on the side of the road. Their relationship gets off to a rocky start, as Nino begins a chain of events that causes Paco to lose his car and his job. Nino disappears and Paco is befriended by local gift shop owner, Marinette (Élisabeth Vitali), who gives him a lift. They fall in love, but their ways need to be split. Paco meets Nino again and penniless and directionless, they take off for a three-week hitchhiking journey together. This marks the beginning of a beautiful friendship, because they discover their common struggles in life, love and what it feels like to be an outsider. This heartwarming and hilarious road comedy won Grand Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival 1997.
